ENERGY MODELING
SPN [business ecology] provides computational analysis to support project design, green certification
requirements and demonstrate compliance with state and local building energy codes. Analysis
occurring early in the design process allows the team to integrate sustainability features into a project
when cost is lowest and there are more viable energy conservation measures (ECMs) to choose from.
LEED ENERGY ANALYSIS
The GBCI requires that an energy report be completed for a project to achieve LEED Certification.
SPN provides all documentation required including narratives and LEED forms for pre-requisite EAp2
(Minimum Energy Performance) and credit EAc2 (Optimize Energy Performance). Energy model development includes:
Baseline Energy Model – baseline to measure design performance
Energy Conservation Measure (ECM) Study – assesses the performance of individual design
measures to reduce building energy consumption. ECMs studied are:
- Envelope Performance
- Mechanical Systems
- Lighting Systems
- Equipment
Energy Performance Workshop – builds consensus across the design team for energy
conservation measures to be integrated into the project.
Final LEED Energy Analysis – the updated energy analysis reflects the 100% CD design
with all documentation required to satisfy LEED EAp2 / EAc2.
NYS DEPARTMENT OF BUILDINGS / ENERGY CONSERVATION CONSTRUCTION CODE OF NYS COMPLIANCE
NYS DoB Energy Codes and the Energy Conservation Construction Code of New York State (ECCNYS) establish
minimum energy efficiency requirements for buildings. Using prescriptive and performance related pathways.
SPN works with the project team to provide energy analyses and simulations, and coordinate the preparation of
supporting documentation with the expeditor required for building permitting and energy code compliance filing.
